What we offer

The Retail Development Programme offers a unique programme that combines the completion of a degree alongside full time work based learning. The length and structure of the programme will depend on who you are studying with.

Nottingham Business School

On this route, you’ll enrol on a BA (Hons) Business Management (Retail Banking). You’ll spend your first year studying full-time in Nottingham. Then, in your second and third years, you’ll be work-based. We’ll cover your fees and pay you a salary in your second and third years. During your studies you’ll focus on a number of modular topics including Business Resource Management, Systems & Organisational Design and Corporate Strategy & Organisational Change. In years 2 and 3, you will attend two three-week study blocks which will take place in Nottingham.

Lord Ashcroft International Business School

On this route, you’ll complete a three-year BA (Hons) in Management and Leadership but be work-based and employed by Barclays from day one. So as well as paying you from the start, we’ll also cover your university fees for the full three years. During your studies you’ll focus on a number of modular topics including Entrepreneurship & Enterprise Realities, Career Management & Development and Contemporary Issues for Leadership & Innovation. You will attend three study blocks in year 1, all for two weeks. In years 2 and 3, you will receive two two-week study blocks in each year. The Ashcroft study blocks will take place in Oakham. On both routes, you’ll also receive support from a range of tutors and academic mentors to ensure you have the necessary support to reach your full academic potential.

As well as your tuition fees being taken care of, you’ll also earn a salary of £12,665 plus London Weighting Allowance (max £3,550 if applicable) and benefit from a range of great benefits:

Placements

You’ll gain a wealth of experience on structured work placements which will help to establish you as a business professional, develop your leadership skills, stretch your strategic capabilities and prepare you for an exciting career with us. To support the development of your work-based skills, you’ll have the support of our own structured Learning and Development programme.

Cashier

This role puts you at the start of the customer’s journey. But it’s not just a transactional role. It involves identifying each customer’s needs and referring them to the right person in branch. As such, it’s a great way to develop your customer insight.

Personal Banker

Dealing with customers on a one-to-one basis, you’ll be using your knowledge and helping them make the most of their money. By building on your service skills and product knowledge, you’ll be able to make customers’ lives much easier.

Operational Specialist

This role gives a real behind-the-scenes look at how a branch works. You’ll be making sure that work processes are being followed across all aspects of the branch whilst identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Assistant Manager

In a role that focuses on motivating, developing and coaching people, you’ll be the main customer facing manager within the branch. Taking on leadership responsibilities, it’ll be you who drives the staff and ensures that customers’ needs are met.

Branch Manager

Bringing together everything you’ve learned on your previous placements, this umbrella role is all about successfully driving people and processes within the branch. You’ll be managing staff, engaging with customers and advising on products including business banking, mortgages, financial planning and Premier Banking.
