“Hi, my name is Max. I studied economics at the University of Washington, and my programme is Marketing and Products.
My business area is responsible in essence for all the marketing products for Barclays. So when you see all the above the line campaigns that might go live on TV and press, our teams work on that. We do product development – when you see the new mortgage or current account products, we’ve been working on all of those, and carrying out the research that goes on behind them.
Through my rotations, I’ve been exposed to a lot of different things. I’ve attended high level senior stakeholder meetings, worked with external suppliers, and done a lot of work with the branch network as well as the telephony teams.
I would say Barclays is a great organisation to work for. It strikes the right balance between challenge and support. On a daily basis I’m challenged with different projects, initiatives and priorities – but at the same time, there’s always that support there, from my Line Manager, my team and my fellow graduates.
I probably chose to work for Barclays because it’s a global, innovative organisation, and there’s a lot of opportunities to work internationally – whether in Africa, Western Europe or in the UK. I was drawn to the international exposure, as well as the chance to explore different markets and opportunities.
I would say that the biggest reason why I chose to work in marketing products is the fact that you get to work across all the different business areas. You get to be creative on a day-to-day basis, whether you’re working on different marketing campaigns or developing new products. It’s a unique and innovative side of the company.
I would say what gets me most excited about my programme is the fact that I get to work across all different channels – I get to work with the branch network, the telephony teams and the online teams, which really gives me a wide breadth of experience. I never feel like I’m in one place all the time, and always feel I have something new and exciting to explore. “
