Human Resources

Across the Group, we employ more than 147,000 people across a wide variety of businesses and geographies, and continuing to attract, develop and retain the very best people is what keeps us ahead of the competition. So the challenges we offer our HR team are varied, significant and stimulating involving key areas such as:

  • Reward Management
  • Talent Management
  • Employee Relations
  • Learning Management
  • Organisation Effectiveness
  • HR Shared Services

Group Centre HR

Joining the HR team in Group Centre, you could work in either one of our full expertise or specialist teams. As well as working with business leaders to deliver HR solutions and services for the functional teams within Group Centre, Group HR also leads the design and deployment of the overall HR policy and governance framework for the broader Barclays organisation. Joining the HR team, you could work on critical employee life cycle areas that need to take in to account the overall Barclays business agenda, position us well within the markets in which we operate and meet the needs of the ever changing legal landscape, our stakeholders and the Regulators.

Retail and Business Banking HR

In Retail and Business Banking (RBB) HR, we know that our people are our most powerful asset and a key differentiator between us and our competitors. Joining the HR team, you could play your part in bringing the RBB People strategy to life as we design and deliver solutions and services that will establish the culture and capabilities we need in all areas to deliver the RBB vision of ‘Lives Made Much Easier’ (LiMME).

In this way, HR is a versatile partner within RBB, understanding and shaping the business and functional goals and making sure we have the people resources to achieve them. With multiple locations, millions of international customers and plans for growth, an HR role at Barclays offers the chance to be part of an exciting business, and make a difference to the careers of thousands of inspiring people.

The work of our HR function in RBB and Group Centre covers a range of key disciplines:

HR Business Partners

HR Business Partners (HRBPs) are the first point of contact for internal customers such as business leaders, managers and colleagues in the different businesses and functions. Working alongside business leaders and the HR expertise groups, HRBPs actively contribute to the development and execution of the People Plan and HR agenda for their business area. They are also accountable for delivering specific HR services, especially where there is a need for high touch or local delivery.

HR Expertise Teams

The HR Expertise teams design and develop strategies, policies, processes and tools to meet our customer needs. The expertise teams also provide specialist advice, guidance and service delivery to the business areas. Within HR we have expertise teams in the following areas:

Reward

This team enables us to attract and retain top talent by providing and supporting compensation and benefits strategies that incentivise and reward excellence in business and personal performance.

Employee Relations

Employee Relations defines strategy and policy and gives HR advice on disciplinary cases, grievances, dismissals, poor performance, managing ill and injured employees, discrimination and equal opportunity claims. The team also advises on business change activity – consulting and communicating with stakeholders ranging from employees and business leaders to Unite and ensuring organisational developments always comply with policy and law.

Talent, Performance and Resourcing

The goal of this team is to work with the business and other areas of HR to help us attract, develop, motivate and monitor top talent and leadership, highlighting critical roles within the organisation and making sure our best people are aligned to those positions. Talent, Performance and Resourcing encompasses a variety of specialist areas including performance management, resourcing, and graduate recruitment & development, retention and career management.

Leadership and Learning

Leadership and Learning is responsible for developing frameworks to transform current levels of capability to a new level of performance, and for sustaining the culture needed for our vision ‘Lives Made Much Easier’. This team delivers Leadership development solutions for RBB senior leadership and management and leads the delivery of learning initiatives.

Organisation Effectiveness

This team shapes the Organisation Effectiveness and Employee Insight plans for RBB. Their work drives the alignment and mobilisation of our people to sustain our high performance organisation.

HR Shared Service Delivery

Our teams here deliver HR, payroll transactional services and pensions administration services to colleagues, Line Managers and pensioners. HR Shared Services also support and resolve colleagues and Line managers queries and issues with HR policy, processes and systems and provide standardised HR and people metrics reporting.
